Finding YOUR Perfect Photographer: Full-time vs. Hobbyist (part3)

Let’s be real – when it comes to the world of planning your wedding there are always two categories to consider when selecting each of your vendors: full-time or hobbyist. Which do you choose? How do you make that decision?! Some couples choose to go strictly with one or the other, but a lot of today’s brides are opting for a good mix of the two. Only you can truly decide which path is best for you and your wedding day, but with this piece of the article you’ll be able to better identify whether a full-time or hobbyist photographer is what you’re looking for.

Part 3: FULL-TIME vs. HOBBYIST

In the wedding photography industry there are two important categories of photographers to consider: full-time and hobbyist/enthusiast. There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone that does photography “on the side” or “just for fun,” but there are some big advantages to hiring someone that has dedicated their career to their couples. A full-time photographer will usually be more experienced overall because they consistently shoot many weddings each year, and get ample time face-to-face with couples and many different wedding environments. With this constant work comes an experience that can’t be replicated. Most photographers that have chosen weddings as a career are slightly more devoted to the client and the entire experience because they have the time and resources available to cater to your unique vision.

Within in this specific portion of the article I didn’t expound much on the “hobbyist” side of things, but I’d like to delve a little deeper for a moment. Hobbyist/enthusiast photographers should never been seen as inferior or viewed to have less talent than a full-time wedding photographer. There are many photographers that only shoot a select number of weddings or projects each year for many reasons, so don’t begin to think that they aren’t “good enough” to work with. There is truly a photographer for everyone and every wedding, so be sure to explore the available options and discover someone that is a perfect match for YOU and YOUR wedding! I know a few hobbyist shooters that produce better work than some photographers that have chosen to make it their full-time career path. There is truly a photographer for everyone and every wedding, so be sure to explore the available options and discover someone that is a perfect match for YOU and YOUR wedding!
